Image Courtesy of Universe Today On May 28, 2026, a major explosion rocked Blue Originβs New Glenn rocket during a test at Cape Canaveralβs Launch Complex 36.
The blast heavily damaged the launch pad, destroying vital structures like the lightning tower and the transporter-erector system.
No injuries were reported, and key systems, including propellant and fuel tanks, survived undamaged.
CEO Dave Limp assured the community that preserving these systems is a step forward, even as the company faces delays.
Despite the setback, Blue Origin remains determined to resume flights before yearβs end.
This explosion could disrupt NASAβs Artemis program, as New Glenn plays a key role in lunar deliveries.
As investigations unfold, Brevard County residents reflect on the challenges and unpredictability of their regionβs space industry.
The communityβs resilience and ongoing support remind all that setbacks pave the path toward future breakthroughs in space exploration. Read More... |

Mortgage rates in Brevard County, Florida, have seen significant shifts, affecting homebuyers and those looking to refinance.
As of early June 2026, the average 30-year fixed rate is 6.375% with an APR of 6.563%, slightly down from the previous week.
Fifteen-year fixed mortgage rates are also trending lower at 5.875%.
This dip in rates has led to a surge in mortgage activity, with mortgage applications up 11.2% and refinancing applications up 16% in early March.
Local lenders, like Community Credit Union of Florida, are offering special home equity line rates as low as 3.99% APR for the first year to attract homeowners.
