Brevard County Save Our Indian River Lagoon Homeowner Grants

🌊 Protecting Our Waters: Brevard County Save Our Indian River Lagoon Homeowner Grants

Brevard County is stepping up to help residents make impactful changes that protect and restore the health of the Indian River Lagoon. Through the Save Our Indian River Lagoon (SOIRL) Homeowner Grant Programs, qualifying property owners can receive financial support to reduce wastewater pollution and safeguard one of Florida’s most treasured natural resources.

šŸ’§ What Are the Homeowner Grants?

These voluntary programs provide financial assistance to residents and businesses in the Indian River Lagoon watershed for projects that reduce harmful nitrogen and phosphorus pollution entering our waterways. There are three main grant opportunities available:

šŸ› ļø 1. Septic Upgrade Grant Program

This grant helps homeowners upgrade septic systems that are not feasible to connect to central sewer. Homeowner grants of up to $20,000 are available for eligible homeowners to upgrade their conventional septic system to an advanced septic system.

  • Who’s Eligible?
Registered owners of residential or commercial properties within the Indian River Lagoon watershed in Brevard County who are interested in upgrading their septic system to an advanced treatment unit.
  • What’s Covered?
Eligible expenses include design, permits, inspections, materials, equipment, and contract labor (and certain restoration of disturbed areas directly related to the project).
  • How It Works:
Homeowners must apply and be approved before starting septic work. To request an application, email IRLProject@brevardfl.gov or call (321) 633-2016.

🚰 2. Septic-to-Sewer (Quick Connects) Grant Program

This program provides financial assistance to decommission a septic system and connect to a central sewer service line. The Quick Connects Grant Program funds septic-to-sewer connections on a prorated basis of $1,600 per pound of nitrogen prevented from reaching the Indian River Lagoon, up to a maximum of $24,000 for certain connections and $12,000 for others (based on connection type).

  • Before Applying:
Property owners should contact their sewer service provider to confirm that sewer service is available for their property.
  • Check your nitrogen loading:
Visit the Save Our Lagoon Maps and search your address on the ā€œStory Mapā€.
  • How to request an application:
    Email IRLProject@brevardfl.gov or call (321) 633-2016.

šŸ”§ 3. Private Sewer Lateral Grant Program

This program supports repairs to damaged private sewer laterals and cleanouts—piping from the cleanout near the structure to the connection point with the public sewer system. Maximum reimbursements are $10,000 for entire lateral replacements or up to $2,000 for smaller repairs to the lateral or cleanout.

  • Who’s Eligible?
Registered owners within the Indian River Lagoon watershed who have a documented code case related to a deficiency, or who can identify and document damage (including photographic evidence).
  • Note: Applicants who do not have a code case violation must submit photographic evidence that clearly documents the damage to qualify.

    šŸ“„ How to Apply

Interested homeowners should start by reviewing the official program information here: SOIRL Homeowner Grants.

Applications must be reviewed and approved by County staff before work begins—so don’t start projects without approval. For help or to request the appropriate application, contact the Save Our Indian River Lagoon Program:

šŸŒ Why It Matters

Wastewater and nutrient pollution can fuel algae blooms and harm lagoon health over time. These homeowner grants make it more affordable to install solutions that reduce pollution and support a healthier lagoon for future generations. Learn more about the broader initiative here: Save Our Lagoon and explore the overall plan here: Save Our Lagoon Project Plan.

Whether you’re upgrading your septic system, connecting to sewer, or repairing sewer laterals—these grants offer a meaningful way for residents to be part of the lagoon’s restoration while offsetting project costs.

The Florida Department of Transportation has officially named Space Commerce Way as State Road 321, marking its entry into the state highway system.

This adjustment aims to streamline transportation within Brevard County’s booming aerospace corridor, reflecting the area’s ā€œ321ā€ code, a playful tribute to rocket launches.

State Road 321 now connects NASA Parkway (S.R. 405) and Kennedy Parkway (S.R. 3), offering improved access to critical sites like the Kennedy Space Center and Exploration Park.

The expansion of Space Commerce Way, completed 100 days early, has boosted traffic flow and safety for all, especially those hauling oversized rocket components.

Additionally, the newly finished NASA Causeway Bridge adds wider spans for heavy loads, supporting the region’s record aerospace activity and rapid development.

In 2026, artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare by streamlining patient care and boosting operational performance.

Hospitals are widely using AI to automate tasks like claims processing and billing, aiming for greater efficiency and cost savings.

Advanced ambient clinical intelligence tools now capture and summarize patient-doctor interactions, significantly easing clinician workloads.

The new AI Patient Record synthesizes patient data in real time, enabling prompt risk assessments and more proactive care.

This rapid adoption comes as federal and state governments clash over AI regulation.

President Donald Trump’s December 2025 executive order barred states from setting their own AI rules, seeking consistent national oversight.

Nevertheless, states such as Colorado moved ahead with strict AI laws like the Colorado AI Act, focusing on safeguarding residents—especially in healthcare—from algorithmic bias.

This regulatory push-and-pull challenges healthcare organizations to stay agile as AI continues to reshape the landscape.
