Image Courtesy of AI Asteroid 2024 YR4, once dubbed a “city killer,” stirred anxiety in Brevard County and beyond after early forecasts hinted at a possible lunar impact in 2032.
Thanks to new observations from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, experts now confirm the asteroid will safely miss the Moon, passing within 13,200 miles on December 22, 2032.
This significant update eases fears for space enthusiasts and local residents, especially in Brevard County, where connections to the Kennedy Space Center run deep.

Since March 9, automated cameras have monitored speeds in six school zones, snapping photos of vehicles traveling at least 11 mph over the limit.
A 60-day grace period through May 8 means early violators will get warning letters—but no fines yet.
After that, tickets with a $100 penalty will be mailed out.
The program covers times before, during, and after school, with each violation reviewed by an officer ahead of notification.
Deputy Chief Tyler Wright stressed that cameras are proven to lower speeding, crashes, and pedestrian injuries.
Recent checks found over 70% of cars at local schools violated limits, highlighting the urgent need for action.

Mortgage rates in the U.S. have surged back above 6%, ending a brief dip and reflecting ongoing volatility driven by broader economic shifts.
Recent rises in bond yields—spurred by higher oil prices and global uncertainty—have pushed the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage up to 6%.
This remains lower than the 2023 peak, offering relative relief to buyers.
Key forces include the 10-year Treasury yield, now at 4.14%, setting a benchmark that lenders follow.
Expectations of future inflation—especially after spikes in oil prices—have led to cautious moves from both markets and the Federal Reserve, which signaled no imminent rate cuts.
Meanwhile, wage growth outpaces inflation and consumer spending remains solid, keeping downward pressure on rates limited.
Despite fluctuations, relaxed lender rules and renewed consumer confidence mean opportunities for well-qualified homebuyers remain strong. Read More... |
