No Timeline for Repairs as Officials Assess Damage |
Mathers Bridge, a historic 700-foot swing-span bridge connecting South Tropical Trail on Merritt Island to Banana River Drive in Indian Harbour Beach, has been temporarily closed to boating traffic following mechanical and electrical failures.
The issues arose on Saturday when a mechanical support failure occurred while the bridge was in the open position.
Subsequent overnight efforts revealed additional electrical system problems, leading officials to halt boat passage until necessary repairs can be made.
While the bridge remains open to vehicular traffic, boaters are advised that there is currently no estimated timeline for the completion of repairs.
Built in 1927, Mathers Bridge is a vital link for both motorists and maritime traffic in the region.
Residents and boaters are encouraged to stay updated through official channels for further information on the bridge's status. Google Link |
