Brevard County is poised for an unprecedented year in space exploration, with a series of high-profile missions set to launch from Florida's Space Coast.

The action kicks off with a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch scheduled for January 4, 2026, at 12:00 AM, carrying a batch of satellites for the Starlink mega-constellation.

This follows a record-breaking 2025, during which the Space Coast hosted 109 rocket launches, surpassing previous records and solidifying its status as a global hub for space activity.

Looking ahead, 2026 is expected to be even busier, with projections indicating up to 165 launches throughout the year.

Among the most anticipated missions is NASA's Artemis II, slated for February 6, 2026, at 9:45 PM.

This mission will send four astronauts—three Americans and one Canadian—on a journey around the Moon, marking the first crewed lunar mission since 1972.

The crew recently completed a full launch day dress rehearsal at the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center, a significant milestone in preparation for the mission.

In parallel, SpaceX is expanding its operations in Brevard County.

The company has received approval to develop Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station for its Starship operations.

Construction is underway, with the first Florida-based Starship launch anticipated as early as mid-2026.

This expansion is expected to create over 600 new full-time jobs in the region by 2030, further boosting the local economy.

As the Space Coast prepares for this surge in activity, infrastructure developments are in full swing.

Upgrades to launch facilities at both Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station are ongoing to accommodate the increasing launch cadence.

Additionally, roadwork along Saturn Causeway is being undertaken to facilitate the transport of larger vehicles like Starship and its Super Heavy booster.

With a packed launch schedule and significant developments on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for the Space Coast and the broader space exploration community.

Residents and visitors alike can look forward to witnessing history in the making as humanity takes bold steps toward the Moon and beyond.
